Carroll Center

Meeting with Steve and the Carroll Center:

Steve and I met with three individuals(Rohib Dow, Padma Rajagopal,Joseph Kolb) from the Carroll to talk about the touch model of the Campus. Steve introduced the project to all three individuals, all of whom were not familiar with it. All three individuals seemed pleased with the project and offered any help with anything we may need in assisting us to further the project. After the meeting with the three, Padma gave us a tour of the campus. She pointed the major things that are often used to get a new student oriented familiar with the campus and the buildings. Some of the things that are used to get a person familiar with the campus includes landmarks, material textures from buildings, pathways and sidewalks, railings, edges of the pathways, etc. The campus is compose of four buildings:

Saint Paul's
Main Hall
Reader Hall
Technology Center

Orientation and Mobility Tour:

The orientation of new students starts in the Main Hall, around the receptionist desk. The students are taken around the campus with an expert guide, giving them pointers on how to find specific objects and textures around the campus that he or she can use to better orient themselves with the campus. Each new student has a different way of method that they use to get around the campus. They can include the use of the sounds made from the cane as it hits different materials, the use of railings, the edges of paths and sidewalks, textures that the may touch etc. There are multiple entrances to the campus, can be identify through the use of landmarks around it. The entrances on Center street has a curve patch stone texture, while the first entrance on Sergent street(the one closer to center street, called All purpose driveway) are identify using two drives that comes before and after it. The second one has two stone sculpture which marks the entry point. Relief signs placed around the campus gives the users information about where buildings are located. Some of the buildings are connected using railings. There isn't one specific type of railing, but multiple types. If we include railings of the the paths they will all have to be compose of specific texture. The main features which were pointed

Each building is unique and are defined by material qualities such as brick, wood and glass. The roof for each building are very unique as well and can play a significant role in showing the difference between each one. We will need to look at textures of each material and figure out how to associate the the real material with the texture of the building model.

For Resna, we will model the Technology Center, which seems to the least complicated, especially the roof. The siding the of Tech center is composed of wood, brick and glass, providing all us with all the of the materials that we will have to deal with. The roof is a simple gable. There are 3 sections to the Technology center, the Main Tech area, the Auditorium and a dorm section. We obtain a drawing of the a site map from the Carroll center, which seems to the scale that we may build the actual model. This will make easier to start modeling the technology center. Steve will recreate the sitemap in Autocad and send me the final dimensions so that i can start modeling the tech center. I will model th e tech center and print it on the 3d printer. We have to think about what if we will doing 3d prints with the intention of creating a mold to cast another material. It seems that the 3d print material is not durable enough for this project and well will have to use a resin base material.

Ed we need to talk about whether or not i am doing the 3d models or Steve. I need to know the amount of time that i am spending on this project and the responsibilities that i have on this project.
